keep Tacony-Palmyra bridge cleared for cyclists

A customer of ours commutes on a Surly Long Haul Trucker equipped with BionX.  Crossing the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge daily, his schedule is disrupted because the bike & pedestrian pathway isn’t being cleared of snow & ice.  See recent story in Inquirer: Weather sends bicyclist to a bridge too far.TPB long cropped

If they can plow lanes for cars in a timely fashion, why not also the bike path? Most of the path is separated from car traffic with a concrete barrier, so we don’t understand their concern about a cyclist slipping into oncoming traffic.

Do you bike over this bridge? Please reach out to the Burlington County Bridge Commission, whose mission is to provide Burlington County’s residents, commuters, and visitors with safe, accessible, and affordable bridges, roads, and facilities.

  1. The Burlington County Bridge Commission meets TODAY at 1pm at their offices at 1300 Rt 73 N next to the Tacony Palmyra Bridge in Palmyra.

John Boyle of the Greater Philadelphia Bicycle Coalition plans on speaking briefly during the public comment period on the need to pay attention to bicycle and pedestrian issues. Commissioner Troy Singleton has been a champion of pedestrian safety on Route 130.

If any of you walk or pedal the bridges between PA & NJ, please come to support. We need to have the ped/bike lanes cleared of snow as much as, and at the same time as the car lanes.

  2. John Boyle & Meenal Raval spoke briefly yesterday. We were heard with respect. At the next snowfall, do please alert us, especially if you see the bike lane on the Tacony-Palmyra bridge being plowed. We’d love to thank the Burlington County Bridge Commission!
